This is surely the best traditional hotel, excellent staff, air conditioned rooms.

The staff was excellent and efficient, the breakfast offered was warm with a great selection of food. This hotel was located in a central area just off pubs, restaurants, trains and ferries and train station/ferry port & town centre. I checked out St John's Cathedral, that was set relatively near the property👍

The room had a great view, but the dining experience was disappointing.

Comfortable older-style hotel, very clean, very pleasant and friendly staff, location handy for the centre of Oban and the ferry terminal. Excellent buffet-style breakfast.
The hotel is an older building and could do with some refurbishment, and though the centre of town location is handy, it also means that you get any noise from local pubs etc.

Fine stay, as always. It's fairly clean, lovely staff and location. The location is magnificent in a nice area, close to Scotland as well as the harbour. There's Cafe Shore relatively close to the hotel, they have tea/coffee/desserts. The rooms are tidy and they have central heating, a work desk and a coffee/tea maker. The breakfast is warm and adequate, includes plenty of meals.

The Royal is in a fantastic location, right opposite the train station and ferry terminal and near the waterfront, shops and ameneties. The hotel is an old fashioned one and has a friendly staff. The breakfast - a buffet style affair - was excellent with a wide range of hot and cold items in a large room.
The room was a little on the small side and the floors sloped around! If you've just come off the Mull ferry you might think this is still your sea legs coming to terms with being on dry land. We didn't mind this as it at least showed a bit of character but I imagine some people wouldn't like that.

helpful night staff, central car park, historical charm
Sound-proofing is appalling!!! I could easily hear every snore and shower from adjacent rooms, made for a rather sleepless night. The décor is tired, and the radiator's control knob is a bit of a mess!!!

The location of the hotel in Oban is particularly good, very close to centre of town and the restaurant and the center of things. Also, it's 10 mins walk from St John's Cathedral...

The staff was very friendly and I was delighted to find a fruit basket and some hot chocolate in my room. The room was really comfortable and there was a good choice of food on the breakfast buffet.

The town centre location made the hotel a convenient base for getting to know oban, its shops, pubs and restuarants.
There was a shortage of private parking at the hotel.I did find a free car park a short walk from the hotel, but this was not suggested by hotel staff.

The hotel is right in the centre of Oban with good access to town and ferry port.
Our room was a little out of date, the ceiling had had a water leak and was stained, some plaster missing, the bathroom fittings were old too. No parking on first night, limited car parking space not really highlighted.
